FAQ

What is Rhinoplasty?
If you have a misshaped, overly large or small nose, or if you have suffered trauma or have breathing issues, it is possible to have surgery to correct these issues. Rhinoplasty, more commonly known as a “nose job,” is performed to reshape or change the size of a nose to make it blend in more with the face. This procedure is done for cosmetic and reconstructive purposes.
The Best Candidates of Rhinoplasty
The best candidates for rhinoplasty are uncomfortable by the size of their nose whether it is simply too large or crooked. Good candidates may also have severe breathing issues that impede daily activities.

It is important that a patient’s facial growth is complete before nose surgery takes place and the patient should be physically healthy. Additionally, a patient must have a realistic goal in mind for the outcome of the procedure.

Planning for Your Rhinoplasty
The first step in planning for your nose surgery is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Diaz. During this appointment, Dr. Diaz talks with you about your issues with the appearance or function of your nose. At that point, he evaluates your nose and your current health so that he can make a recommendation and create a plan for your rhinoplasty procedure. Because this is outpatient surgery, it is important to plan for someone to take you to and from the procedure as well as help you for the first 24 hours following the surgery.
Preparing for Your Rhinoplasty
Prior to having rhinoplasty, you must follow instructions provided to you during your consultation. You may be asked to have a pre-operative health check-up as well as bloodwork in addition to following steps to ensure proper healing following the procedure.
Types of Anesthesia

General anesthesia. General anesthesia renders patients unconscious during the surgery and unable to feel anything. Medications are given intravenously and through inhalation.

Rhinoplasty Procedure
The procedure for rhinoplasty varies with each patient based on the shape of their nose and the purpose for the surgery. During the procedure, via incisions placed inside the nose or along the creases on the outside, the nose is reshaped in terms of reducing or increasing size, removing a visible hump created by excess cartilage, and other noticeable issues. Additionally, if there are breathing issues, these are corrected during surgery.

Rhinoplasty is most often done on an outpatient basis and typically lasts up to three hours depending on the purpose of the procedure and the extent of the issues. Dr. Diaz decides what type of anesthesia to use based on the actual procedure and reason for the surgery. It is common to use general anesthesia because of the complexity of many nose surgeries.

After Your Rhinoplasty
After your procedure is completed, a splint, internal tubes or packing will likely be placed inside your nose to support and protect the new structures during initial healing.

During the initial consultation, you will be given detailed post-op instructions to follow to ensure a speedy and healthy healing process. It is important to avoid anything that is forceful to the nose such as sneezing or blowing your nose. To help with swelling and bruising, it helps to use ice packs. Additionally, for the first week, it is best to sleep with the head elevated.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost in Mississippi?

Several variables play into the cost of rhinoplasty, including the extent of the procedure, why it is being done and whether other procedures are also taking place at the same time. If the procedure is done to correct breathing issues, insurance may provide coverage because it is considered medically necessary. We accept cash, check, and credit cards, as well as offer financing, options through CareCredit®

Getting Back to Normal After Rhinoplasty
You can most likely return to work or other light activities about a week following your nose surgery; however, it is important to avoid anything involving heavy lifting or other strenuous activities. Two weeks following your surgery, Dr. Diaz takes out the stitches, and normal activities can be resumed after about a month. At this point, the results of rhinoplasty are fully visible.

It is always a good idea to avoid makeup during the healing process as it may compromise the healing process.

Your New Look
Once the healing process is complete, your new nose complements the other features of your face as well as functions properly so that breathing is much easier. The look is subtle and creates a younger appearance without giving you the look of “having a nose job.”
