FAQ
The Best Candidates for a Facelift
The best candidates for a facelift have excess skin that sags. They often choose a facelift if dermal fillers and Injectables do not offer the desired results. It is necessary that patients be in good health and have a sound understanding as to the possible results.
Planning for Your Facelift
A facelift is considered major surgery and involves some recovery. This makes it necessary to plan for time away from work and other activities that can increase recovery time.
Preparing for Your Facelift
To prepare for your facelift, you must have an overall health check-up as well as blood work to ensure there are no underlying conditions that can be negatively affected by surgery. Additionally, if you smoke, it is highly recommended you stop a few weeks prior to your facelift as it slows recovery and may affect the results. It is also advisable to avoid any medications or supplements that thin the blood to reduce bruising and excessive bleeding.
Types of Anesthesia
General anesthesia. General anesthesia renders patients unconscious during the surgery and unable to feel anything. Medications are given intravenously and through inhalation.
Facelift Procedure
Facelifts are performed based on the extent of any changes you want. The options include a traditional facelift or a limited incision facelift.
Traditional facelift. With a traditional facelift, the incision is typically made in the hairline at the temples and continues around the ear and down to the lower scalp. If necessary, Dr. Diaz may take fat from the face, jowls, and neck as well as reposition underlying tissue, and lift deeper layers of the face and the muscles to smooth and tighten the face.
Limited incision facelift. This method, also known as a mini facelift, uses shorter incisions at the temples, continuing around the ear and, if necessary, the lower eyelids or under the upper lip.
Once that is done, the skin is repositioned over the corrected facial area trimming away excess skin. If the sagging extends to the chin and jawline, it may be necessary to make an incision under the chin to smooth that area. As soon as the procedure is complete, Dr. Diaz closes the incisions with sutures or skin adhesives.
