FAQ

The Best Candidates for Breast Augmentation
Women seeking breast augmentation may have smaller than normal sized breasts, or they may have a strong desire for larger, fuller breasts. To be considered an ideal candidate, it is essential that a patient’s breasts are fully developed. Additionally, they need to be in good health and have realistic expectations of the results from breast augmentation.
Planning Your Breast Augmentation Surgery

To plan for breast augmentation, you first need to schedule a consultation with Dr. Diaz to talk about your concerns and what you want out of the surgery. Additionally, he evaluates your breasts, overall health, and medical history, including any history of breast cancer.

Other factors for which to plan for breast augmentation include the financial and recovery factors. We can work with you regarding the financial aspect by offering options. As for recovery, it is suggested that you arrange for help at home during the first few days following breast augmentation, especially when children are there.

Preparing for Your Breast Augmentation Surgery
Preparing for breast augmentation involves pre-operative testing as well as reviewing a list of instructions to follow leading up to the surgery. You must stop taking any blood-thinning medications and supplements that may prevent clotting; and, if you smoke, it is recommended you quit two weeks prior and two weeks following the surgery date.
Types of Anesthesia

Breast augmentation is usually performed under general anesthesia. Anesthesia with sedation is necessary to relax the patient to sleep while the procedure is performed.

General anesthesia. General anesthesia allows patients to be unconscious while the surgery is done. This allows them to feel nothing. With general anesthesia, they receive medications intravenously and through inhalation. Longer, more involved surgeries are typically performed with general anesthesia.

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast augmentation surgery is as individualized as each patient based on what the goals of the procedure are. It entails making an incision in one of three ways:

Periareolar Incisions: These incisions are used with all implants and go around the outer edge of the areola to allow implants to be placed above or below the muscle.
Transaxillary Incisions: These are done in the armpit to hide the scar so that they are not very visible.
Inframammary Incision: This incision is placed under the breast as there is more control when placing the implant.
No matter which way the incisions are done, the implants are placed either behind the breast tissue or under the pectoral muscle (chest) depending on the type and size of the implant.

Once the implant is placed, the incisions are closed, and the area is bandaged and wrapped with gauze. Breast augmentation typically takes up to two hours. We recommend waiting a day or two before showering.

After Your Breast Lift Surgery
After breast augmentation, healing varies based on the type of implant and the size. During the initial recovery period, it is important to have someone with you to help with the day-to-day activities. After the first week, most patients return to light work but must refrain from strenuous activity for about four weeks. Any side effects usually resolve themselves within a month or so. Any scarring from the incisions is greatly diminished within about six months.
How Much Does Breast Augmentation Cost in Mississippi?

The cost of breast augmentation varies depending on the type of implant used, where the incision is made and if any other plastic surgery procedures or Medical Spa treatments are performed at the same time. We can discuss the cost during a consultation along with our payment options and financing through CareCredit®.

Getting Back to Normal Following Breast Augmentation Surgery
Most patients return to work within a week or two following breast augmentation, with strenuous activity avoided for at least four weeks. Swelling and scarring may take several months to resolve before your final results are visible.
Your New Look
Even though the results are immediately noticeable, the full effects take time. Once they are apparent, patients are typically very happy with the outcome of the procedure.
