Silicone vs. Saline
There are now several options available when considering silicone breast implants. Ranging from implant profiles, sizes, texture and even shaped breast implants. The newest cohesive gel or “gummy bear” implants provide a very natural feel. For the population of patients that may be looking for a slightly smaller incision, saline implants are a great alternative. They are also a less costly option.
- Both implants are safe and FDA-approved
- Saline implants are FDA-approved for those 18 and older
- Silicone implants are FDA-approved for those 22 and older or those going through breast reconstruction at any age
Size
Determining implant size is a cause for anxiety for many patients considering breast augmentation. During my consultation with you, I will take measurements to determine what size implant is most appropriate for your specific anatomy. We also have breast sizers in my office and a well-experienced staff to help you feel more comfortable while making your decision. I also advise the patient to bring in pictures of what they would ultimately like to look like. The Internet is a great resource for this. This also allows me to get an exact idea of the result my patient is looking for.
Selection
The most important thing to consider, in my opinion, is selecting a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, as well as an ASPS member.
